ULTRASOUND SCANS:
Ultrasound scans provide physicians with a look at a particular body area by creating an image produced from sound waves. This type of study produces a very good quality image without the radiation risk of a CT.
Carotid Scan –
This study provides an ultrasound scan of the carotid artery, the major blood supply from the heart that runs up the neck to the head and brain area. This proactive diagnostic tool may identify arterial blockage that contribute to stroke.
Aorta Scan –
This study provides an ultrasound scan of the aortic artery, the primary blood supply from the heart to the rest of the body. An ultrasound of the aorta can detect an aneurism.
Extremity Scan –
This study provides an ultrasound scan of the arteries in the legs or arms. Symptoms of constricted arteries in the extremities include numbing and coldness.
Venous Scan –
This study provides an ultrasound scan of the veins – usually in the legs. Veins sometimes become blocked or clogged. Left untreated, a blocked vein can result in pulmonary embolus. This study is useful in determining if blockage is occurring.
Gallbladder Scan -
This study provides an ultrasound scan of the gallbladder and may reveal blockage of ducts, gallstones, masses, or cysts that could lead to cancer or other digestive disorders.
Liver Scan -
This study provides an ultrasound scan of the liver and may reveal blockage of ducts, masses, or cysts that could lead to cancer or other digestive disorders.
Kidney Scan -
This study provides an ultrasound scan of the kidneys and may reveal kidney stones, masses, or cysts that could lead to cancer or other urinary problems.
Thyroid Scan -
This study provides an ultrasound scan of the thyroid gland and may reveal abnormal enlargement, masses or cysts that could lead to cancer or other problems with the endocrine system.
Prostrate Scan for Men -
This study provides an ultrasound scan of the prostrate gland and may reveal enlargement, masses, or cysts that could indicate cancer.
Pelvis Scan for Women -
This study provides an ultrasound scan of the ovaries and uterus and may reveal masses, cysts, or other abnormalities that could indicate cancer.
